Builds a bridge between the joyful creativity of the arts
And those deprived of their hopes and dreams

The Valkyrie Theater of Dance, Drama & Film, a performance group, is made of Multi Religion, Ethnic, and Cultural teenagers between the ages of 11 and 17. They are working on two dance/dramas "What Is Courage?" and " Ralph - One Night of Choices." These dance/dramas explore the themes of; the courage it takes to say no when your peers are saying yes, and the choices we make and live or die with. The participants are developing their own dance/dramas to explore what they have to say to the world. They rehearse these pieces and perform them on film and before an audience. The teens are able to examine openly their personal situations and find answers that guide them to more positive future life choices.
The first hour is a dance, the second hour is rehearsal of dance/drama group pieces, and the third hour is developing, and rehearsing individual dance/dramas. (required for the students dramatizing their own stories) No experience is necessary to be a part of this group.
In order to teach accountability, each student will sign a contract where they agree to participate in all classes and rehearsals, dress rehearsal and performance. At the end of the performance each student will be given $5.00 for each class they attended, if they were on time, and they fully participated.
We will perform at schools, churches, peace rallies and with professionals. We are also filming the pieces that come out of the group to enter into film festivals and to market for profits that will go back into Valkyrie Theater of Dance and Drama.
After working together in the dance/drama performance sessions during the school year, the group will participate in the actual filming of a theatrical motion picture during the summer.

1 - They will be taught the skills of filmmaking, and the discipline and dedication demanded from such a venture from caring professionals. Down time on the set will be devoted to academics, and subject of special interest.
2 The teenagers and their mentors will videotape a summer journal of their experiences, a documentary produced, shot, and edited by themselves.

We met Mondays and Thursdays from 4:00 PM 7:00 PM at:

The Workers Place
1251 S. St. Andrews Pl.
Los Angeles, CA 90019
